Introduction to the art of building and city planning in the Roman world, 6th c. BC - 2nd c. AD. Emphasis on concepts of space, on issues of structure, materials, decoration, proportion, and the Etruscan and Greek heritage as well as on theory and practice of urbanism as reflected in ancient cities (Rome, Ostia, Roman Alexandria, Timgad) and writings (Vitruvius, and others).

Excursions to the Penn Museum and Philadelphia. No. prerequisites.
