ARTH 525: Mycenaean Shaft Graves
Professor Betancourt
F 10-12
Course Description

The Shaft Graves at Mycenae yielded some of the most important objects for our understanding of the art and archaeology of the Late Bronze Age in Greece. Gold masks, vessels of gold and silver, and objects in many exotic precious materials continue to pose many unanswered questions about the nature of this early stage of the Late Bronze Age. This course will be a seminar which will present an overview of the history, art, and interpretation of the Shaft Grave material. Requirements include student presentations and a research paper on one aspect of the subject.
