ARTH 288-601 Course Description This course surveys 20th century design through the work of major creative figures examined in the context of their times. Each session will focus on one master of design as representative of a particular movement or theme, among them, Frank Lloyd Wright (American Arts and Crafts), Henri van de Velde (Art Nouveau), Marianne Brandt (Bauhaus), Le Corbusier (Standardization), Charles and Ray Eames (Good Design), Joe Colombo (Italian 1960s Design), Ettore Sottsass, Jr. (Postmodernism), and Philippe Starck (Design Today). |
