TTh 1:30-3
Course Description

This course investigates two major regions of the Old World - the ancient Near East (with a focus on the Iranian Plateau) - and the world of Northern Asia (with a focus on Central Asia and the steppes of Asia).  The course combines the lectures of both Professors Hiebert and Pittman.  Through slides and readings the course will cover the art and archaeology of these regions from the origins of settled life through the development of great empires and the establishment of the Silk Road.  This course is open to both undergraduate and graduate students and can be enrolled either through Anthropology (237/637) or Art History (ArtH 425/AAMW 425).

The class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays 1:30- 3:00 P.M. in Room B6 Meyerson Hall.  The first meeting for students enrolled in Anthropology 237/637 will take place in the University Museum 419 (the Loren Eiseley room) on September 9th, after that all classes will meet at Meyerson Hall.
