Course Description
Architecture, like writing, is a form of communication; a building conveys meaning. By looking at and reading about architecture, you will learn how architects and authors use artistic forms and conventions to communicate. More importantly, this course is designed to prepare you for the variety of writing assignments you will encounter as college students. As we engage in academic discourse on the subject of architecture, you will complete a series of written assignments, both in and out of class, which will help you to identify your strengths and weaknesses as a writer and to improve your writing. During the course of the semester, you will learn not only about the social and political context of nineteenth-century buildings, but also how to read critically and how to construct a convincing argument.
