AAMW 635
(CLST 635/ANCH 635)
Iron Age Greece & Anatol
Instructor: Professor DeVries
W 2-5

Course Description

The course will focus on Anatolia and Greece from ca. 1200-700 B.C., but we will also look eastward to the contemporary influential cultures of the Levant and Mesopotamia, as well as noting the colonial expansion of the
Greeks and Phoenicians into the Central Mediterranean and beyond. We will weigh recently accumulating evidence that may point to a relatively early recovery in the Aegean and Anatolia from the catastrophes at the end of the Bronze Age, and in that connection we will take up in particular the challenge of new C 14 dates from Gordion.
