Course Description

Introduction to European and American painting, sculpture, graphics, and architecture from the Renaissance to the present. The course emphasizes the basics of visual analysis and close study of major historical monuments, their patrons, and cultural significance. It includes looking assignments and discussions of original works at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. For students who desire an introduction to the arts as well as for those who seek a foundation for more specialized study in the field.
